1. Guild Name: The Big Smoke

3. E-mail Contact: nethercross@gmail.com
4. Rah’s Furcadia Name: Lord Nethercross
5. Taneests’ Furcadia Names:
6. Ten Founding Members: Lord Nethercross, Banbury, Lady Temperance, Masato Kojima, Almondine Aucoin, Micky Hammond, Claudius Gallahaughn, Erin Garnet, Penelope Lane, Ivette
7. Guild Dream Title: The Big Smoke: Victorian London
8. Guild Dream Location: Imaginarium, near the Key Hall
9. How to Join: You do not have to be a member to roleplay in the dream, but if you wish to use the guild's official continuity, you may submit an application in the Applications forum. Applications are entirely voluntary, and official approval is not required to begin roleplaying with that character, but the Rah or Taneests may advise players to tone down overpowered characters in the interests of fair play.
10. Guild Continuity: Focused on London during the Victorian era, the timeline hovers somewhere over the years 1881-89 (events within this timeframe are considered to be happening more or less simultaneously, for the purposes of RP), potentially incorporating historical figures and events from 1865-1905, mostly in the form of flashbacks or flashforwards.
11. Style of Play: Freeform roleplaying following the guidelines set out in the Guild Charter and Rules. Optionally, players may use a special system for quests and combat.
12. Continuity's Tech Level: Late Industrial Revolution.
13. Continuity's Acceptable Character Types: Humans and Anthropomorphs ("Furres"). Magic users are allowed, but magic is extremely rare and its effects are limited in the civilized world, where science has begun to replace superstition. Supernatural characters, such as vampires or werewolves, are allowed but require the Rah's or a Taneest's permission to play. Famous historical or fictional characters, such as Queen Victoria or Count Dracula, require the Rah's permission to play, and players are encouraged to use pseudonyms in place of real names when playing well-known historical or fictional characters (e.g., Sigfried Mund instead of Sigmund Freud).
14. Combat: Combat is allowed but generally discouraged in London. Combat may be settled using freeform roleplaying and mutual consent, or using online dice and a special system. Characters may be killed only with the consent of their players - that said, combat is dangerous, and serious injuries should have serious in-character repercussions on your character's health.
15. Backstory: London was known as "The Big Smoke" in the late 19th century. It was the largest city in the world and the capital of the largest empire in history, the centre of global finance, the busiest seaport, and an industrial powerhouse in its own right. People come from all over the world to work and live in The Big Smoke.
16. Geography and Climate: Urban; frequent fog and rain, occasional smog (particularly in winter); prevailing winds blow air pollution (mostly coal and wood smoke) from west to east, with the result that the rich tend to live in the less polluted west end, while the poor tend to live in the east end.
17. Magic Items: Extremely rare; may be discovered during certain quests.
18. Roleplay Positions: May be assumed at the players' discretion.
19. Factions: The Establishment, The Masses, and The Revolution. The Establishment faction consists of upper class and respectable middle class characters such as Aristocrats, Capitalists, Clergymen, Officers, and Professionals (Doctors, Lawyers, Professors, etc.). The Masses faction consists of middle class and lower class characters, and includes anyone who is not a member of The Establishment or The Revolution. The Revolution faction consists of Communists, Socialists, Anarchists, Feminists, Atheists, Bohemians, and other radicals, including anyone opposed to the power of The Establishment.
20. Character Sheets: Optional; may be required for certain quests.
21. Plot Assumptions: The timeline hovers somewhere over the years 1881-89, but may incorporate historical figures and events from 1865-1905. It is a period of financial depression; society is sharply divided between rich and poor, and revolution is a remote but very real possibility. Science promises to solve all our problems - if it seemed possible to the Victorians, it is possible here. Technology is more advanced than it was historically, and fantastic contraptions such as analytical engines, airships and submarines may be invented. Women are more liberated than they were historically, and may attend university and enter most of the traditionally male professions (medicine, law, journalism, etc.), but are still denied the vote and considered the weaker sex, and may be denied entry to certain gentlemen's clubs, old boys' networks, &c. A certain percentage of people worldwide exhibit anthropomorphic ("furry") features to varying degrees, but they walk on two legs and appear to be otherwise "normal" human beings. They have faced discrimination for centuries, but have recently become somewhat acceptable to polite society, since Charles Darwin pointed out in On The Origin of Species that the majority of "humans" merely exhibit the features of their ape ancestors, while the residuum of "furres" reflect the range of other evolutionary chains. However, due to their long history as talented outcasts, furres are often found in more adventurous occupations.
22. OOC Discussion: Restricted to OOC areas; confined to whispers or brackets in IC areas.
23. Guild Positions: Rah; Taneests; Faction Leaders; Dicers; Patchers; Dreamers; Scripters; Botters.
